Potassium is a cation (+ charged ion),which can be supplied with a simple salt fertilizer. All inorganic potassium sources have been reacted with companion ions (anions) such as chlorides, sulfates, nitrates, orhydroxides. These companion ions can and often are limiting factors in soil fertility. Pro K is an organic, plant derived Potassium source which provides nutrition without additional limiting factors.

POTASSIUM RESULTS

Sulfate of Potash 0-0-50 applied at 100 pounds per acre  

  • Day 1: 24.8 ppm
  • Day 10:  15.6 ppm

TSS liquid Pro-K 0-0-20 applied at 1 gallon per acre

  • Day 1:    23.4 ppm
  • Day 10:   15.0 ppm

100 pounds per acre of 0-0-50 provides 50 pounds of a granular Potassium requiring irrigation for solubility.

1 gallon per acre of Pro-K 0-0-20 provides 2.09 pounds of soluble Potassium. Irrigation not required

Results indicate 1.4-ppm difference on the first day of leachate capture or more or less providing the same amount of actual Potassium as a potential nutrient source. Leachate capture on day 10 indicates 0.6-ppm difference of actual potassium as soluble and as a potential source of K nutrition.

Also noted results are reductions in Sodium and Sulfur with the use of Pro-K versus Sulfate of Potash. Disruptions to Cation/Anion balance may be a factor.

Sodium and Sulfur levels were reduced on day 10 with each product applied except Sulfate of Potash that reported the higher ppm over the remaining 3 products tested. Sulfur levels from Sulfate of Potash were over 50% higher than the results for all tested materials.
